11 plans to do while in Barcelona

If you want a full options getaway, you should consider Barcelona as your next destination. It is artistic by excellence thanks to the Genius Antoni Gaudí. It has lots of history and suitable for those who love historical tourism. At the same time, you can enjoy your time on the beach, party at night and do lots of shopping!

Here are the 11 plans that you should consider while in Barcelona:

  1. Plan a tour to see Gaudí’s Spectacular Architecture: Antoni Gaudí was a Spanish architect, a famous practitioner of the Catalan Modernism. You cannot go to Barcelona and not notice the impact he had on the city. His style was special with the freedom of form and voluptuous colors and texture. You should not miss visiting the following:
    • La Sagrada Familia: Its construction started in 1882 and is supposed to be done by 2026 (100 years after Gaudi’s death). It is one of the most impressive cathedral I ever saw.
    • Park Güell: Parc Güell was built between 1900 and 1914 and today is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. This is a garden that has a series of dynamically designed buildings, including Gaudí’s house.
    • Casa Batlló: it is the result of a total restoration in 1904 of an old conventional house built in 1877.
    • La Pedrera: This is one of Gaudí’s main residential buildings and one of the most imaginative houses in the history of architecture. UNESCO recognized this building as World Heritage in 1984. DSCN7059
    • Do not forget to reserve your tickets online because the queues are enormous and you can save a lot of time if your tickets are ready. Take this note very seriously!
  2. Barcelona from above: Whenever you are travelling, do not miss the chance of seeing the city from above. Usually, the best time is at sunset. there are many options: Montjuic Cable Car, Tibidabo Mountain or be more adventurous and take a Helicopter tour over Barcelona!tumblr_of1gyx2yGF1us14l8o1_1280DSC_0419DSC_0341
  3. Enjoy a walk in the Placa de Catalunya, La Rambla & Gothic Quarter: I would advice you to find a hotel in this area. We can start by Placa de Catalunya where you can find a big square with fountains, lots of pigeons, many shops & restaurants.
Then head to La Ramblas, one of the most touristic streets in Barcelona. You will find lots of souvenir shops, restaurants with Sangrias & florists. You can get a beautiful cactus. I would recommend to stop by Viena to have an Iberian Ham Sandwich then pass by Amorino to get a super delicious ice cream with a macaron. At the other end of La Ramblas, there is Plaza de Colon (in honor of Christopher Colombus).

Then you can go to the Gothic Quarter where you can visit the Cathedral of Barcelona (Santa Eulalia) and be amazed of the old city style. This is one of the most beautiful part of the city. you can enjoy walking in the small streets where there are lots of shops.

    Many famous squares:

    1. Placa Reial (My Favorite for dinner, Lights are done by Gaudi as his first project)
    2. Placa de Rei
    3. Placa Sant Jaume
    4. Placa de Pi
  4. Be a Spanish Foodie by excellence: Spain has a very Special Cuisine. Make sure to try the following:
    • Paella
    • Tapas (What a variety!!): Iberian Ham, Croquettes & Sea Food are the most famous!
    • Sangrias (Cava or Red): Personally I preferred the Cava
    • Iberian Ham      20170720_231323
    • Beers & Wine                                                                                         20170724_205219
    • Ice Cream

  5. Be a Football Fan & Visit Camp Nou: Whether you are a Football fan or not, this can be a very interesting! I won’t insist if you are not a FC Barcelona Fan. 🙂 It was nice to see all the trophies, how Lionel Messi is considered as a God there (whether it is true or not) and how beautiful and huge is the stadium! we visited as well the dressing and conference room.

  6. Relax at Barceloneta Beach: Plan a day at the beach to relax and have lunch at Maka Maka.

  7. Be a Lazy Tourist with Hop On Hop Off or Barcelona Bus Turistic: I used to think that it is a trap but when you feel tired, it can be a good escape. They stops on all main touristic places. There are 2 tracks available for 1-2 days depending how much time you want to visit each spot. It can be a good deal.

  8. Watch a Flamenco Show:Although the dance is not local to Catalunya, one of the best Flamenco Shows in the city is Tablao de Carmen in Sants-Montjuïc. A cheaper alternative is in the jazz club Jazz Si in Ciutat Vella.
  9. Shopping: Barcelona is one of the cities you can get the best deals for shopping. The Spanish brands are well known around the world and are of course cheaper in their homeland. You cannot miss Zara, Massimo Dutti or Desigual and many others while there. Passeig De Gracia and the Gothic Quarter have many shops in the touristic area. If you want better deals, you can go the La Roca Village Outlets. You take the bus from Passeig De Gracia for 20 euros. Check the bus timing for better planning.
  10. Barcelona By Night: Monuments can be even more charming at night. So plan your dinners, drinks & parties at Placa Reial, Go to see Placa Espanya and the Magic Fountain and you can take a good photo of Torre Agbar at night.

  11. Getaway in Montserrat: it is an hour far from Barcelona. it needs between 5 hours to full day visit. We did not have time to do it but apparently, the nature is nice and there is a sanctuary there and you can do some hiking. If I missed it, maybe it is better for you not to!montserrat.jpg

That’s all folks! Hope you will enjoy Barcelona! Happy Curling!
